Geraldine is a daughter of Charlie Chaplin, the first of eight children with his fourth wife, Oona O'Neill, and thus a granddaughter of playwright Eugene O'Neill. [3]

Chaplin married Chilean cinematographer Patricio Castilla on August 18, 2006, her long-time companion. They have two children together, Shane (born in 1974) from her relationship with Saura and Oona (born in 1986) with Castilla. Chaplin occasionally travels to Miami, her hometown in Florida, where she owns a beach house.
