Thomas and Frances had a grandson , Francis Arthur Perkins (Frank), who was born in 1889 in Peterborough. He was educated at Rugby School and Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and ran a farm in Hertfordshire briefly before returning to the family firm of Barford and Perkins in Peterborough.

His father and grandfather were engineers; the family firm, Barford and Perkins, manufactured agricultural machinery and road rollers. Graduated from Cambridge in 1910 with a pass degree in mechanical engineering.
