    Finding E.T.

Elliott found E.T. when he heard strange noises outside and finally led the alien into his room with Reese's Pieces. Elliott soon befriended E.T and the next day feigned illness so he could stay home to play with E.T.. Elliott found out the alien had an extendable neck and could breath underwater. The next day, Elliott had to go to school. However, he unknowingly had a psychic connection to E.T. and did whatever the alien did and felt whatever the alien felt. During science class, Elliott's connection made him release hundreds of frogs which were going to be dissected and told the frogs to run, claiming he was saving them. (Elliott did this because E.T. was reading a comic that showed a superhero rescuing an alien.) At home, E.T. then turned on the television and saw the movie, The Quiet Man and saw the scene where John Wayne kissed Maurine O'Hara. The psychic connection with Elliott and E.T. caused Elliott to kiss a girl in his class who he liked in the same manner while the rest of the kids were going into a panic because of the frogs, who were rapidly escaping the school. Because he kissed the girl and caused disruption in the class, Elliott was sent to the principal's office and was sent home, most likely suspended. When Halloween rolled around, Elliot and his siblings Michael and Gertie used the opportunity to take E.T. in disguise to where Elliot would take E.T. to the woods to set up a communication relay to contact his people so they could come back for him after leaving him behind earlier. This is when E.T. demonstrated his telekinetic powers with allowing the bike Elliot was pedaling to take flight over the forest before coming back down in the clearing to set up the relay. The next morning, Elliot, cold and tired, returns home to his family just as his mom was filing a missing child report with the police. Worried about E.T., he sends Michael to find him back at the site where the relay was, only for Michael to find E.T. lying in a creek from a storm drain, looking just as sick and distressed as Elliot was due to their mind link. When Elliot shows E.T. to his mom Mary, she immediately grabs Elliot, and with Michael holding Gertie, tries to escape from E.T., only to find their house surrounded by U.S. government federal agents, who have the house quarantined as they attempt to help Elliot and E.T. as best they can. During this time, an agent named "Keys" speaks to Elliot, suggesting that E.T. was not left on Earth on purpose by his people, believing his presence to be a miracle. However, E.T., realizing he's going to die, severs his mind link with Elliot, allowing Elliot to make a full recovery, while E.T. flatlines, and despite best efforts by the medical staff to resuscitate him, including using a defibrillator, they are unable to revive him, all while Elliot screams at them to leave E.T. alone as they are killing him and only he can help him, while his little sister Gertie recoils when the defibrillator is used and breaks down crying. Some time later, with all efforts to revive E.T. having failed, it is decided to pack E.T. in ice for transport back to the lab for dissection and research. However, as Elliot is allowed some time alone with E.T., spotting a plant E.T. had revived earlier coming back to life again, Elliot opens the makeshift coffin for E.T., and finds him fully revived, as his kind have detected the signal from the relay, and are coming back to get him, thus causing his resuscitation because his link with them has been restored. Elliot quickly puts E.T. back into the coffin while asking him to keep quiet to avoid raising suspicion, and pretends to still mourn for E.T. when Keys arrives to take Elliot away so E.T. can be loaded up for transport. However, Elliot has his brother Michael commandeer the van carrying E.T. and attempt to escape from the feds, bringing it to a stop in the nearby park, where Michael's three friends are waiting for them with their getaway bikes. After loaded E.T. up in the basket on the front of his bike, Elliot leads Michael and his friends as they attempt to escape from the local police and federal agents and head to the forest where the relay is. Reaching the main thoroughfare, Elliot and the others are soon chased by several agents on foot, before several more form a roadblock ahead with their cruisers. When Elliot sees the agents bring out their shotguns and rifles, intending to use deadly force if necessary, Elliot winces and braces for his apparent death, but E.T. senses his fear, and once more uses his telekinesis to lift all five bikes into the air, allowing them to escape the agents and head to the forest safely as the agents watch them escape in complete shock. When they reach the relay, the mothership that left E.T. behind previously arrives to pick him up. Everyone is allowed a chance to say goodbye to E.T., with Gertie offering him a plant to take with him back to his homeworld. Once E.T. assures Elliot he will always be with him in his heart, E.T. takes the plant, walks up the gangplank to his ship, and as it prepares to lift off, Elliot and the others watch until E.T. is safely inside the ship as the doors close, and the mothership takes off to return home, but as it does, it leaves a rainbow in the evening sky behind as a parting gift to Elliot and everyone else as thanks for taking care of E.T. until it could return to recover him.
