The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) is a National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP) meal service option that allows schools and local educational agencies (LEAs) in high poverty areas to offer meals at no cost to all enrolled students without collecting household applications.
The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) allows eligible schools to serve free breakfast and lunch to all students regardless of income. CEP has been shown to increase participation in school meals, and supports a whole child approach to learning.
Eligibility - A school is eligible for CEP if at least 40 percent of enrolled students participate in certain public benefit programs like the Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or are identified as being automatically eligible for free school meals, such as children experiencing homelessness.
