Jun 28, 2004 · Since the law of Moses insisted that a priest marry only a woman of highest reputation, Zacharias had chosen the daughter of another priest to be his wife. Not only was she a descendant of Aaron, but she bore the name of Aaron’s own wife, Elisheba or Elizabeth, which means “the oath of God.”
Despite what Zacharias likely communicated to her in writing, Elizabeth, having been socially disgraced for being barren for so long, initially may have feared scorn, even accusations of having lied about being pregnant, if she lost her baby, until she accepted that her pregnancy was from the Lord.
