David Westheimer (April 11, 1917 in Houston, Texas – November 8, 2005) was an American novelist best known for writing the 1964 novel Von Ryan's Express which was adapted as a 1965 film starring Frank Sinatra and Trevor Howard.

Westheimer was a novelist best known for his books Von Ryan's Express and My Sweet Charlie. A 1937 graduate of Rice University, his early career was devoted to journalism. He was working for the Houston Post when America entered World War II, and he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces.
His plane was shot down by Italian fighter planes and he spent 28 months in Italian and German POW camps. He based his novel "Von Ryan's Express" on his experiences as a POW. He was also an editor and columnist for The Houston Post.
