The two had become acquainted when both of them were studying chemistry in the Lawrence Scientific School. Charles’s father, Benjamin Peirce, the Perkins Professor of Mathematics and Astronomy at Harvard, has been described as America’s most eminent scientist in the nineteenth contury.
On July 10, 2000, Pierce was found hanging in his room at the Bellagio Hotel in Paradise, Nevada by hotel security. His death was ruled a suicide , [ 31 ] [ 32 ] [ 33 ] and suicide notes were reportedly found but not released to the public. [ 12 ]
Peirce died on 19th April 1914.
