Second Captain Alexander Cavalie Mercer who is also buried in St David's Churchyard, fought at the Battle of Waterloo. He was arguably the most famous officer who fought at Waterloo on 18th June 1815. He was acting commander of what was officially G (Dickson's) Troop, Royal Horse Artillery.
