Both would be in my all time PL team. I think Keane was the better leader, but would probably say Viera was slightly better because he was more of an all rounder.
Feb 16, 2022 · Patrick Vieira. Famously remembered as Roy Keane’s rival on the field, the Frenchman was also an immensely talented defensive midfielder. He was instrumental to Arsenal’s Premier League success under Arsene Wenger and he was able to thrive alongside several different midfield partners.
Now, that’s a great thing to do, but Keane was actually better at receiving the ball and building from the back than Vieira. Vieira was slightly better than Keane as a footballer, but Keane was much better as a leader. Also Keane was far more consistent with his performances than Vieira.
Without a doubt one of the premier leagues best, and whilst other players may have been better at specifics elements of the game, I personally don’t think there’s been a better all round midfielder than Vieira in the Premier League era.
