Anthony Edward Tudor Browne CBE (born 11 September 1946 [1]) is a British writer and illustrator of children's books, primarily picture books. Browne has written or illustrated over fifty books, and received the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2000.

Anthony Browne is an internationally acclaimed author and illustrator of children's books, with dozens of titles to his name. Anthony's skilful use of colour, pattern and background detail subtly conveys an exquisite empathy for his lonely and sensitive child protagonists (both human and ape).

Browne appeared as Professor Foster on The Cosby Show in 1986, winning a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series. He and fellow actor Anthony Zerbe toured the United States with their poetry performance piece Behind the Broken Words .
