Yandex was created by Ilya Segalovich and Arkady Volozh while working for Arcadia in 1993. It was named Yandex as an abbreviation for Yet Another Indexer. They named it Яndex, using Я as a shortened version of Ya. Yandex was unveiled on September 23, 1997. At that point it had indexed the entirety of the Russian internet.
Ilya Segalovich and Arkady Volozh thought up the word “Yandex”. Arcadia had launched a new version of a search program and they wanted to give it an original name. Ilya sat down with a sheet of paper and wrote down words that described the essence of the program, brainstorming around the words “search” and “index”.
History. Arkady Volozh and Ilya Segalovich were friends from their school days in Kazakhstan in the 1980s. Volozh started developing algorithms to search in Russian texts and contacted Segalovich in 1990. [11] They worked together to develop search software, [12] with the company name Arcadia.

Yandex.Browser. Yandex released a browser of its own design. This was an important event for the company, since a browser is the most important thing needed to navigate the web. The Russian version came out first, followed by versions for Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Turkey.
The website has gone through many changes like being just a searching browser, an entire email and becoming into a multi-service website. The company was originally founded in 2000 by Arkady Volozh but the website didn't start until 2006. Currently headquartered in Moscow, Russia.
Ilya Valentinovich Segalovich (13 September 1964 – 27 July 2013 [2][3][4]) was a co-founder of Russian company Yandex. He was CTO and director of Yandex since 2000 until his death in 2013. Segalovich proposed the name “Yandex” for the search engine, derived from the idea of “Yet Another iNDEX”. [5]
