The school was founded from a bequest on the death of Dr. John Edward Elam in 1888 of ten thousand pounds. His will stated 'in the selection or admission of pupils those shall be preferred who, from poverty or circumstances, are unable at their own charge to obtain for themselves the advantages furnished by the school.'.
Jul 9, 2020 · Elam has a long history having been founded in 1890. Elam was incorporated into the University of Auckland in 1950 and now caters to about 450 students from undergraduates to PhD and studio Doctorate candidates. For 2021, Elam is introducing a new Bachelor of Fine Arts and increasing its conjoint options from one to 11.
Nov 10, 2021 · The Elam School of Fine Arts amalgamated with Auckland University College in 1950, bringing with it a small collection of art books. From these beginnings the Fine Arts Library has developed into the well-funded and reputable arts library that exists today.
Dec 17, 2021 · ACE’s first board also included Ursel White Lewis, considered Columbus’ first Black arts patron. The working-class owner of a hat shop, Lewis was a mentor to Kamau and donated Black art to the Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus State and other Ohio arts institutions.
Aug 30, 2021 · Created to uplift an underserved Black arts scene, the Snaps & Taps Lounge in Columbus hosted the city’s first poetry slams, which became a gathering point for Black creatives from the city and across Ohio. The CMA was founded in 1878 as the Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts. Beginning in 1919, it was housed in the Francis C. Sessions house, a founder of Columbus Art School (later known as Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD).

The Elam School of Art was founded in 1890 following a bequest by John Edward Elam, a prominent citizen of Auckland, who had been keenly interested in the arts. The first director was E. W. Peyton, 1890–1923, who was succeeded by A. J. C. Fisher, A.R.C.A., 1923–59.
