Susan Gordanshekan’s “A Dysfunctional Cat”, which is essentially one of the most awkward boy meets girl scenarios in cinema, is actually a refreshing (and sometimes painfully and hilariously real) take on arranged marriages in contemporary times.

A Dysfunctional Cat is her feature debut and was developed under a “Cinéfondation Résidence” scholarship from the Festival de Cannes. Director Statement. It is the story of a traditional Iranian arranged marriage but placed in a Western context to highlight the similarities rather than the differences of the challenges people face.
