- Syrax. The first dragon met in House of the Dragon‘s first episode, “The Heirs of the Dragon,” Syrax is the mount of the dragonrider Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.
- Caraxes. The second dragon we meet, in House of the Dragon‘s second episode, “The Rogue Prince,” Caraxes is known as the Blood Wyrm for his blood red scales.
- Seasmoke. One of the youngest dragons able to bear a rider, Seasmoke plays a crucial role in “Second of His Name” as Daemon Targaryen, wounded and surrounded by enemy soldiers, is saved at the last possible moment by the arrival of Seasmoke and his rider, Laenor Velaryon.

Bartlett is the show's newest Dragon, having joined the show in 2021. Meanwhile, Davies is also a relatively new addition, first appearing on Dragon's Den in 2019.
- Syrax. Rider: Rhaenyra Targaryen. Allegiance: the Blacks. This female dragon with a yellow hue bonded with Rhaenyra when the princess was only nine. Syrax opens up the series, though we haven't seen her since the first episodes (so for about 10 years in show time).
- Caraxes. Rider: Daemon Targaryen. Allegiance: the Blacks. Also known as Blood Wyrm, this red, horned male is bonded to Daemon, and is known for being as fearsome and vicious as his rider.
- Balerion. Deceased. Rider: Aegon the Conqueror. The largest and oldest Targaryen dragon, known as "the Black Dread," is mentioned several times throughout House of the Dragon, as the characters will bring him and his rider, Aegon the Conqueror, up when they speak of the history of Westeros and the Targaryen line.
