The magic of Community Building is weaving people and assets together, discovering strengths & skills - everyone has something to give. Our Communities are strong in many different ways, and there are always stories to discover, adding to the great tapestry of our beautiful city.
The Exeter neighborhood grew from what was originally a 4,000 acre 18th century plantation that anchored the east side of Leesburg. Now, the vibrant community includes 399 single family homes and 430 townhouses on 215 acres. Homes were built between 1984 and 1999.
Working as part of the Wellbeing Exeter project, Exeter Community Initiatives’ 10 Community Builders in Exeter and Cranbrook help create new networks, connect people and opportunities, and look at what community spaces, skills, groups and people exist in an area.
Exeter was built in, 1796, on lands owned by Dr. Wilson Cary Selden, Jr. Many events of note occurred here. The marriage of George Washingtons great-nephew, John Augustine Washington to Eleanor Selden took place at the plantation in 1843.
