- Welcome to Hawkins, Indiana. It all started one dark evening at the Hawkins National Laboratory, where military experimental research was taking place. The exterior of the lab was shot in a building on Emory University's Briarcliff campus in Atlanta.
- The Stranger Things House. The exterior of the house of Mike and Nancy Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard and Natalia Dyer) is located at 2530 Piney Wood Lane in East Point.
- New Season Two locations. The intro of the first episode of season two, "Madmax", was filmed on Peachtree Place in Midtown Atlanta. The skyscrapers from Pittsburgh in the background were digitally added in post-production.
- Season Three. The Starcourt Mall is Hawkins's premium shopping center. The location scout team found a half-abandoned complex with many storefronts vacant called Gwinnett Place Mall in Duluth, north of Atlanta.
Most of the exterior scenes were filmed about 30 miles (48 km) east of Cotulla, Texas, on the 35,000-acre (140 km 2) La Mota Ranch. Other scenes were filmed near Laredo, Texas. 2500 Texas Longhorns were used for the herd. Interior scenes were recorded at Paramount Studios in Hollywood.
