The Deer Hunter stars Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, John Savage, John Cazale, Meryl Streep, and George Dzundza. Weirton was used to film mill and trailer shots in The Deer Hunter.

Now withdrawn and retired from prison use, it operated from 1866 to 1995. Currently, the site is maintained as a tourist attraction, museum, training facility, and filming location.
