And as the shooting location for hundreds of films, from a few westerns starring Roy Rogers to Gladiator to Django Unchained, the town is home to the Lone Pine Film Festival and Lone Pine Film History Museum. Multiple global locations were used between 1976 and 2003 for filming locations during the production of the first six Star Wars films to provide the setting for alien planets in the Star Wars Canon on Universe.
Most locations were used to shoot principal photography with actors; more recently as digital filmmaking has become more common, some prequel trilogy locations were shot with no actors present and digitally composited into the films to provide a backdrop of a story setting.

- Lenno, Italy. You can visit the same Lake Retreat where Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala hid in Attack of the Clones. George Lucas filmed the scenes at the Villa del Balbainello in Lenno, Italy, overlooking the Lake Como.
- Tunisia. Several Star Wars places can be found in Tunisia, a North African country bordering both the Mediterranean Sea and the Sahara Desert. The Hôtel Sidi Driss in Matmatat-Al-Qadimal was used as Luke Skywalker’s childhood home (the Lars homestead) in A New Hope.
- Grindelwald, Switzerland. The spectacular mountains of Grindelwald were the backdrop of many Star Wars filming locations, including Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.
Death Valley National Park. 4.4. Furnace Creek, CA. While it's true that most of the Tatooine scenes were filmed in Tunisia, bits and pieces were filmed in this notoriously desolate National Park and spliced in with footage from Tunisia.
