Set in 1948, the film follows 14-year-old Farha, who resides in a Palestinian village. While her peers are excited about a friend's impending marriage, Farha harbors dreams of pursuing education in the city, much like her best friend Farida. Despite her father Abu Farha's insistence on marriage, Farha demands the opportunity for education. Upon persuasion from her uncle Abu Walid, Abu Farha eventually agrees to consider Farha's request. However, as tensions rise due to the looming conflict of the Nakba, local Palestinian militias approach Abu Farha, urging him to join their cause. Despite his status as village chief and mayor, Abu Farha prioritizes the safety of his community over joining the fight.
During a wedding celebration, as Zionist militias initiate violence in the village, Abu Farha informs Farha of his acceptance of her educational aspirations. Amidst the chaos, Abu Farha, accompanied by Farha and Farida, attempts to evacuate the village. Despite Abu Farida's insistence, Abu Farha chooses to stay behind, entrusting Farha to the care of Abu Farida. However, as the situation intensifies, Abu Farha locks Farha in a storeroom for safety, promising to return once it is safe. Days pass with no word from her father, leaving Farha isolated and terrified as she witnesses the brutality of the conflict.
