- When Should You Stay Outside of Paris? Here Are The Exceptions...
With only one exception, all of our recommended Paris neighborhoods are located in the city's central core - the single-digit arrondissements (1-9) within close walking distance of most famous attractions and iconic experiences such as a cruise down the Seine River. Only Montmartre is further out, but the metro makes getting around fast and easy.
Are there places in Paris where you should avoid staying, especially if you're a first-time visitor? Yes, absolutely - depending on your circumstances. Here are our suggestions for where NOT to stay in Paris:
Let's say you're planning to visit Paris for a week or more, and want to spend 2-3 days at a destination outside of the city - perhaps Versailles, Paris Disneyland, or even London. In that case, it makes sense to spend a night or two at the location you're visiting as it will be much more convenient than going back and forth, and might even save yo...
Oct 11, 2024 · Hôtel National Des Arts et Métiers: Our #1 Pick in Le Marais. This hotel, which is somewhere between a mid-range and boutique hotel (we’d say a little of both), is our number one choice in Le Marais, and we’ve bookmarked it for our next trip to Paris. Here’s why. The location could not be better.
- Heart of Paris – 1st & 2nd Arrondissements. This area includes the tip of Ile de la Cite as well as a portion of the Right Bank. Popular destinations include Notre Dame, the Louvre, and Tuileries Garden.
- The Marais – 3rd & 4th Arrondissements. The Marais is one of the oldest quarters in Paris. For many visitors, this area tops the list as one of the best places to stay.
- The Latin Quarter – 5th Arrondissement. Sitting on the Left Bank, just a stone’s throw away from Ile de la Cite, is the Latin Quarter. Similar to the Marais, this is another neighborhood that is crisscrossed with narrow, maze like streets and small cafes.
- Saint-Germain-des-Pres – 6th Arrondissement. Saint-Germain-des-Pres sits right next to the Latin Quarter. This neighborhood is prettier, has more charm, and is more centrally located than the Latin Quarter, so if you are trying to decide between the two, I recommend Saint Germain.
- The Heart of Paris. Join me on an exciting six-day tour into Paris’s heart, seeing its timeless beauty and historic sites. Let us go on this incredible voyage on the first day, full of wonder and enthusiasm.
- The Louvre Museum and Nearby Attractions. Louvre Museum. To make the most of your day, get up early and visit one of the world’s most famous museums, the Louvre.
- A Trip to Versailles. Palace of Versailles. Versailles beckons with its luxurious elegance, enthralling history, and majesty fit for royalty, just a brief train trip away from the bustling streets of Paris.
- Saint-Germain-des-Prés and Gems of Paris. Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Begin your day with an enjoyable meal at one of Saint-Germain-des-Prés’s typical Parisian cafés.

Sep 10, 2019 · 1er (1st arrondissement) is the best place to stay if you want to be close to everything. It doesn't get more central than the 1er (premier; 1st) arrondissement, which, along with the 2e, 3e and 4e, form the collective administration Paris Centre.
