- Go Snorkeling or Diving in Key Largo. Key Largo is world famous for its diving and snorkeling. The best place to go is the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park.
- Caribbean Club. The Caribbean Club’s claim to fame is that it was a filming site for the movie Key Largo (starring Humphrey Bogart) in 1947. It is the oldest bar in the Upper Keys.
- Have a drink at Sharkey’s Sharkbite Grill. Located in the marina in Key Largo, Sharkey’s Pub serves pub food and great drinks. If your day is ending in Key Largo, consider ordering one of their jumbo sized rum buckets.
- Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen. Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen is one of the most popular places to eat in Key Largo. This is a small restaurant serving brunch, lunch and dinner.
Oct 25, 2024 · We’ve suggested 5 days for a Florida Keys road trip, but you could easily stretch or shrink that. The main destinations I’ve covered are: Key Largo, Key West, Marathon and Islamorada. Another popular spot is Big Pine Key, which you could visit from Key West.

- Key Largo. Ease yourself into the Keys' laidback vibe just south of Homestead with a detour onto Card Sound Road. A stop into Alabama Jack's is a must, especially if you're a first-timer.
- Islamorada. You could easily spend a few days hopping around the string of tiny islands that make up Islamorada and while you do, The Moorings Village is the perfect place to call home.
- Marathon. Even before Hemingway's old man took to the sea, the Keys were a saltwater angler's paradise, legendary for big game like sailfish, wahoo, and blue marlin.
- The Lower Keys. Take a detour for some beach bliss at Bahia Honda State Park, a 524-acre swath of nature tucked between the Atlantic and the Gulf. Don't forget to drop by Sandspur Beach, long considered one of the best in the Keys.
- Arrive in Key Largo. Try to arrive in Key Largo just before lunch and then get a morning walk in at the Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park, located on the northern tip of the island.
- Explore Tavernier on Key Largo. If your hotel has kayaks, spend the morning out on the water exploring the mangroves and bird-watching. Then hop on a bike and head over to the Harry Harris Park (or another of Key Largo’s beaches), where you’ll get some gorgeous ocean views.
- Islamorada. Welcome to Islamorada, the sportfishing capital of the world! Bright and early in the morning, it’d be appropriate to head out on a fishing charter.
- Islamorada to Marathon. In the morning, try to get out to Indian Key by kayak. It’s a beautiful ghost island, and you’ll likely have the entire place to yourself.
