I can not tell you how many headaches this small little dam has given to this community There are four options: 1. Restore the lagoon to a saltwater marsh flushed by the Ocean. 2. Create a hybrid lagoon with the eastern half freshwater and the western half saltwater. 3. Dredge and improve the existing freshwater lagoon. 4. Do nothing.

There is a short loop trail at the Buena Vista Audubon Nature Center. Transit The Audubon Nature Center and trailhead is a short walk from a northbound 101 bus stop at Coast Highway and Eaton St, and about 1/3 mile from a southbound 101 bus stop and a 302 bus stop at Coast Highway and Vista Way.
Inside the center are several animal exhibits "taxidermied" of the local birds of the area. In the meeting room there are many touch-exhibits that are quite fun for the kids. There's also a small loop hike attached to this center's parking lot ( less than a mile) that goes through the Buena Vista Lagoon. Probably not a good hike after a long rain.
