Tavira is built on both sides of the Gilão River. There are several bridges to cross the river, but the most interesting one is known as the Roman bridge (in Portuguese: Ponte Romana). The Roman bridge has 7 arches and is located near Praça da República. The bridge itself isn’t Roman, but was built in the 12th century.
