St Bede’s began in cramped quarters in Ferry Road but shifted to its present location on the main northern entrance to the city in 1920. The land and buildings of the current site were paid for by funds raised in the Christchurch diocese between 1914 and 1918, and by a legacy from the estate of Bishop Grimes, the founder of St Bede’s.
