Chapter 2: Season 8, also known as Season 18, with the slogan "Cubed", was the eighteenth season of Fortnite: Battle Royale. The season started at 5:00 AM (EST) about 13 hours after Chapter 2: Season 7's live event Operation: Sky Fire had concluded. It started on September 13th 2021 and ended on December 4th 2021 at 4 PM EST with The End (Chapter 2) live event, ending both Season 8 and Chapter 2.
It was originally scheduled to end on December 5th 2021, but was later changed to be one day early.
The theme was "Cubed" and it revolves around the invasion of the island by a group of Cubes and how its evil corruption spreads throughout the Island, similar to Chapter 1: Season 6 and just in time for the Halloween season.
It was also the second shortest season of Chapter 2, with had 82 days. The first being Chapter 2: Season 3 which lasted 70 days.
The Island and its inhabitants were faced with an alien invasion by The Last Reality. The Mothership arrives to abduct pieces of the Island and turn part of the Island into an alien biome. Loopers were also abducted by The Mothership and were used in experiments. Doctor Slone of the Imagined Order set up the Mothership Countermeasure Device in Corn...
After Countermeasure Device was activated, the Mothership blew in to pieces and, along with the Cubes, crashed on to the island causing destruction. The player is then hit by a crashing Abductor and passes out. After downtime, the Cubes were spread out all over the island and summoned monsters. The new war between the islanders and the Cubes had begun.
In the story trailer, Headhunter, Triggerfish, J.B. Chimpanski, Bracer, and Shadow Ops were walking close to a Cube which awoke and summoned Sideways Monsters to attack the group. The Foundation, which was rifted to the ocean in the previous season, is still underwater, but awakes from his slumber in Gotham Harbor. The Cube Queen says "you should have known we'd return... you thought you saved your little reality.. all you did, was prepare it.. for us, so go on and gather what's left of your 'army' .. ready your defenses.. and now when we are done.. only Nothing will remain."
After Operation: Sky Fire, there are 6 Corruption Cubes (including the Season X Cube within Steamy Stacks), a Golden Cube near Holly Hedges, and a Blue Cube rebooted by loopers during the said Live Event located near Misty Meadows. Multiple crashed Abductors scatter the island, but The Mothership crashed outside of the island. The corruption Cubes start to spead corruption, but are "hibernated" and stayed in place. In order for The Cube Queen to achive her goal of destroying the island, the corruption Cubes needs to be awakened. To do this, she moves the Golden Cube near the corruption Cubes, first to the crash site near Believer Beach, where she awakens the first corruption Cube by charging it with the power from the Golden Cube. Shortly after, the corruption Cube spawned smaller Cubes and started following the Golden Cube, where they leave corruption on its track.
The War Effort led by J.B. Chimpanski has plans to counter the Cube Queen's plot. His first was to fund additional Turret Stations by the help of Loopers. 7 more Turret Stations were fully funded by Loopers. Shortly after, another funding was set up for Loopers to select a weapon/item for funding, the first was the Shockwave Launcher over the Rift-to-Go.
The Golden Cube awakened the second corruption Cube near Pleasant Park and freed the Season X Cube from Steamy Stacks. The Cube from Steamy Stacks did not produce smaller Cubes. The Golden Cube then headed towards Compact Cars where it awakens the corruption Cube near it.
The War Effort started the funding to introduce the Combat Assault Rifle or the Combat SMG. The Loopers funded Combat Assault Rifle to reach the funding goal. The next was the Combat Shotgun over the Boogie Bomb.
The Golden Cube awakens the last two Cubes near Misty Meadows and Weeping Woods, where they follow with the Golden Cube. All six Cubes then met at The Aftermath, where they break apart for the Cube Queen to emerge and build The Convergence. She then summons Caretakers to aid the Sideways Monsters, which are the largest and most powerful Cube Monster.
Doctor Slone and her convoy heads to the bunker near Catty Corner and open it, revealing the secret IO base that has been locked since the beginning of Apollo Island.
When the countdown reached zero, The Cube Queen uses The Pyramid to open a rift revealing several Motherships. A fleet of Saucers and Abductors arrived and attack the Loopers at the Guava Fort, breaking the shield produced by the Rebooted Cube. A horde of Caretakers were summoned and attacked the Loopers. An Abductor uses a beam to destroy the Rebooted Cube. Several Loopers were eliminated during battle, though some escaped through the hatch leading to The Bridge.
This leads to a cutscene inside the Imagined Order's base, where it is revealed that Agent Jones has been captured by Doctor Slone, who plans to execute him for treason. Before she can do that, The Foundation arrives, killing several IO Guards. Slone was surprised by this, thinking he had died in the Zero Crisis Finale event during the formation of The Spire. The Foundation then removes his mask, revealing him to played by none other than Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson himself. Slone then proceeds to pull out a Legendary Pistol and fires at The Foundation, resulting in The Foundation then locking Slone inside the room by punching the door lock.
Jones and The Foundation then head into The Bridge. The Foundation reverses the gyroscopic orientation of the Island, while Jones fights off IO Guards. The Scientist and The Visitor, flying over the Island, notice the Loopers and bring them to safety inside the hidden bunker near Guava Fort. The Visitor flies off while The Scientist follows the Loopers into the bunker, after blowing up some Caretakers with grenade-like bombs.
The Scientist then leads the players through the IO's base as the Island begins to vertically rotate and The Bridge starts to collapse. The Loopers are led to the epicenter of the Island, where they remain until a Caretaker smashes the skylight, causing Loopers to emerge in the ocean, far from the Island.

•The Mothership has crash landed south of the Island. It's wreckage can be seen in the horizon. •The IO have begun repairing Holly Hatchery, removing most of the Alien technology from the invaded buildings, and reverting the POI back to Holly Hedges. •Multiple Abductors have crashed on the island. Multiple slipstreams, super bouncers, and a Cube have appeared at all of them, each crash site a landmark: •A piece of an Abductor crashed into Dockside Dish, leaving the remains as Destroyed Dish. •Pieces of an Abductor crashed near Misty Meadows, creating a hole on the back of Mount F8, destroying a building in Misty Meadows, and creating a Levelled Lake. •Pieces of an Abductor crashed near Pleasant Park, revealing a hidden fourth bunker south of Pleasant Park and leaving remains besides the Deep Woods Dish, creating the landmark Smashed Stronghold. •Pieces of an Abductor crashed in between Believer Beach and Holly Hedges, destroying houses in the crash zone and leaving the landmark as Shattered Saucer. •Pieces of an Abductor crashed into the western side of Weeping Woods, causing the corrupted area to be renamed into the landmark Wasted Woods. •Pieces of an Abductor crashed south of Dirty Docks, causing minimal damage to the eastern coast. •Five new Imagined Order encampments have been built around the island, all of which are landmarks: Base Rio, Base Domino, Base Roger, Base Echo, and Base Oscar. •A Named Location will occasionally be covered by a portal to The Sideways. Sideways Anomalies that take the form of corrupted rifts also appear around the map. •Several Reboot Vans were added outside of named locations. •Several War Effort Donation Stations have appeared around the map, collecting Bars to add Turret Stations to each area. •The last Trespasser has moved into a house at Pristine Point, transforming it into an Extra-Terrestrial Estate. Alien fanatics from Believer Beach are observating it from the distance. •Several Alien themed decorations from Believer Beach were sent to Compact Cars. •The Golden Cube landed east of Holly Hedges. •The Rebooted Cube landed north of Camp Cod; multiple trees and yellow flowers grew around it, creating the Friendly Forest landmark. •A bunker has been built under FN Radio. •A fourth bunker hatch has been uncovered south of Pleasant Park. •A small group of gnomes have appeared at Lazy Lake with explosives, preparing a jail break for all the gnomes held in the nearby Sheriff's Office. •More Characters have appeared around the map, updating the locations they roam. •September 13th: The Cube at the Shattered Saucer has moved south. •September 14th: •Doctor Slone appeared as a Boss at IO Convoy between Corny Crops and Dirty Docks. •The Cube at the Destroyed Dish has moved east. •The Cube at the Shattered Saucer has moved south twice. •September 15th: •The Cube in the Wasted Woods has moved north. •The Cube at the Shattered Saucer has moved north. •The Cube near the Levelled Lake has moved south. •September 16th: •Most of The Cubes have begun to move around. •The War Effort Donation Board at corny complex has been fully funded, and a Mounted Turret has appeared in the location. •September 17th: •Mounted Turrets appeared at Weeping Woods and Pleasant Park, later at Misty Meadows and Corny Crops. •September 18th: •One more Mounted Turret appeared at Pleasant Park and Corny Crops. •September 19th: •The Golden Cube awakened the Purple Cube near Believer Beach. •Doctor Slone and her IO Convoy moved across the bridge. •A Turret appeared in Catty Corner. •September 20th: 6 Baby Cubes spawned from the Cube near Believer Beach.
