I saw them in NBTexplorer, and seem to be just as the regular level.dat file, so that's why I'm clueless about why did they generated in the first place.
"Data" can be accessed by clicking the mode button while holding the Alt key. All invisible blocks are now displayed as small cubes by save mode structure blocks; previously barriers and light blocks would not display at all. Variants of air still all appear identical and are not distinguished.

When I imported the level.dat from the world file it says “Selected file is not a valid level.dat file. Please select the level.dat file of an existing Minecraft map.”. I was able to open and play it fine in normal Minecraft. The map is on 1.17 and I was going to keep if like that until I did my edits in world painter.
