Lane Tech College Prep High School is a selective admissions school whose student body is chosen through a formula, which incorporates standardized test scores, academic grades, and the results of the entrance exam. Lane Tech is not accepting transfer applications for the 2024-25 school year. Admission is only available to current sixth grade and eighth-grade students who tested into Lane Tech and the Lane Tech Academic Center through the selective enrollment process.
Located on Division and Sedgwick, the Albert Grannis Lane Manual Training High School opened in September 1908. The school was formally dedicated on Washington’s birthday, February 1909.
Lane Tech is the only Selective Enrollment High School on the north side with an Academic Center. The other two Selective Enrollment High Schools with an Academic Center are Whitney Young (downtown), and Lindblom (south side).

Lane Tech opened as a manual training school for boys until the 1930s when its mandate was changed to that of a college preparatory school. The current building, situated on a beautiful thirty-acre campus, was opened in 1934. In September 1971 female students entered Lane’s doors for the first time.
