Kairaku-en (偕楽園, Kairakuen Park) is a Japanese garden located in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. Along with Kenroku-en and Koraku-en, it is considered one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan.
Ranked among Japan's three finest landscape gardens, Kairakuen (偕楽園) is most famous for its over three thousand plum trees. The garden is located in Mito, the capital of Ibaraki Prefecture. Kairakuen was built relatively recently in 1841 by the local lord Tokugawa Nariaki.
Kairakuen is located in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture and is about 1 hour and 10 minutes from Tokyo. The journey from Tokyo Station to Mito Station takes about 70 minutes by limited express (Hitachi or Tokiwa) on the Joban Line, or about 2 hours by local train.
