Joseph's Tomb (Hebrew: קבר יוסף, Qever Yosef; Arabic: قبر يوسف, Qabr Yūsuf) is a funerary monument located in Balata village at the eastern entrance to the valley that separates Mounts Gerizim and Ebal, 300 metres northwest of Jacob's Well, on the outskirts of the West Bank city of Nablus. [1]
Genesis 37–50 tells the intricate and adventurous story that begins with Joseph portrayed as the favorite son of Jacob. Joseph’s special status angers his brothers, who sell him into slavery—to either Ishmaelites or Midianites, who then bring him to Egypt.
According to the Bible, Joseph was embalmed and buried in a coffin in Egypt (Goshen/Avaris), after having his people swear to carry his bones away. Later midrash identify his first entombment in a royal mausoleum, or as cast into the Nile.

Jun 7, 2024 · According to the Book of Exodus, Moses took Joseph’s bones out of Egypt to fulfill Joseph’s request to be buried in the Promised Land (Genesis 50:25, Exodus 13:19). The fact that the tomb is empty could be viewed as a piece of circumstantial evidence supporting this part of the narrative.
