    Almeria is on the South coast of the region of Andalucia, just 130 km from Granada, and halfway along the coast between Màlagaand Cartagena. It sits on the mouth of the Andarax River ahead of a gap in the Sierra Mountain range, a gateway to the interior of the Iberian Peninsular.
