  1. The following is a list of lakes in Oklahoma located entirely (or partially, as in the case of Lake Texoma) in the state. Swimming, fishing, and/or boating are permitted in some of these lakes, but not all. Oklahoma has more than 200 lakes created by dams. All lakes listed are man-made.

    • Keystone Lake. View on Map. Keystone Lake is one of the largest lakes in the area, covering more than 23,500 acres. The lake offers a variety of recreational activities, including fishing, boating, camping, and hiking.
    • Skiatook Lake. View on Map. Skiatook Lake is a beautiful lake located just 20 miles northwest of Tulsa. The lake covers more than 10,000 acres and offers a variety of recreational activities, including fishing, boating, and camping.
    • Lake Hefner. View on Map. Lake Hefner is a 2,500-acre lake located in northwest Oklahoma City. It is well-known for its excellent bass and crappie fishing, as well as its scenic views.
    • Lake Stanley Draper. View on Map. Lake Stanley Draper is a 1,500-acre lake located in southeast Oklahoma City. It is known for its abundance of largemouth bass and crappie, as well as its scenic beauty.
    • Lake Tenkiller. Created in 1952 with the damming of the Illinois River, Lake Tenkiller was designed by the Army Corps of Engineers to control flood waters and produce electricity.
    • Lake Texoma. Straddling the border of Oklahoma and Texas, Lake Texoma emerged in 1944, when the Army Corps of Engineers built a dam across the Red River, in hopes of gaining some control over flooding.
    • Lake of the Arbuckles. Building a dam across Rock Creek in 1966 was a way to create this reservoir and provide water to the city of Ardmore and its surrounding communities.
    • Grand Lake O’ The Cherokees. With the completion of Pensacola Dam in 1940, a dream of the Cherokee Nation came to fruition. Grand Lake was created to produce electricity for the tribe in northeastern Oklahoma.
