Colonial Street sets (Maxim House / Munster House, Harvey House) were first built on Stage 12 for this movie. Colonial Street - the Hubbard house set was built on a sound stage for this movie and was moved to Colonial Street in 1950. It remained there next to the Munster house until 1981.
The Munsters was filmed at Universal Studios in Hollywood, and interior scenes were shot on soundstages. The house used for exterior shots was originally built for the film So Goes My Love. In 1964 the Victorian style house was converted to the Munster Mansion, and given spooky and decrepit look.
