Karl Pilkington goes to the South Pacific to spend time alone on a "desert island." On his way there, he attempts bungee jumping in New Zealand but chickens out. He then goes to Vanuatu where the locals perform land diving, and opts to perform his jump from the lowest bar.
Most of each episode focuses on Pilkington's reactions to cultural differences and idiosyncrasies in the countries he visits. Gervais and Merchant call Pilkington during each trip, to assign him tasks often not related to why he believed he was visiting the country.
