Homecoming follows Daisy-023 who, after years of manipulation, escapes the Spartan training facility on Reach. The story is told in a non-linear fashion, jumping back and forth between Daisy's past escape from the facility and her present involvement in a battle against the Covenant .
Where does Homecoming take place? Watching through the show, I had surmised the planet the Marines are fighting on was Sargasso, the same homeworld Daisy-023 was from. Near the end the Pelican extraction zone looks very similar to where her house used to be across a long bridge.

Bearing that in mind, this list is for those of you who wants to go through the entire halo universe chronologically, most of the novels are connected in one major story arc which the games expands upon, but there are some self contained stories as well.
Obviously the only short that would definitely be eligible is Homecoming (the one abt Daisy-023) since Daisy appears briefly in Silent Storm. I think The Prototype (the one about the edgy marine in the mech suit) and The Babysitter (the one about the ODSTs) could fit in with some minor modifications. Archived post.
