In 1910 the Altus, Wichita Falls and Hollis Railway (later the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway) built a line from Altus, through Duke to the Oklahoma-Texas border. U.S. Highway 283 crosses the county in a north-south direction and passes through Altus and Blair.
