Sirius Black is a fictional character in the Harry Potter series of novels by J. K. Rowling. Sirius was first mentioned briefly in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone as a wizard who lent Rubeus Hagrid a flying motorbike shortly after Lord Voldemort killed James and Lily Potter.

He was the last remaining heir of the House of Black, a once-notable pure-blood wizarding family. Sirius had a younger brother, Regulus.
Nov 6, 2017 · Born in 1845, the first known Sirius Black was the older brother of Phineas Nigellus Black, former headmaster of Hogwarts. Sadly, according to the Black Family tapestry, Sirius did not survive into adulthood. Phineas later named his own son ‘Sirius’, presumably in honour of his late brother.

Sirius grew up at Twelve Grimmauld Place but has long since dismissed the rest of the Black family, who chose to follow Voldemort. Being trapped in that house simply reminds Sirius of his alienation, just as Harry’s time at Privet Drive reminds him of his own lack of real family.
Coming from one of the oldest (and darkest) of magical families, the rebellious Sirius Black chose not to follow in the footsteps of his other family members, many of whom became Death Eaters.
