In the early 1940s he first started his career out broadcasting. By the late 1940s he was a local broadcaster in Ohio that played jazz and pop records. In 1954 he was hired by a New York City radio station, there he prompted black artists, and rock and roll artists.

In the early days of the 1990s and early 2000s, Roca was a loosely defined youth development organization that wanted to help everyone we could. Just over the Mystic River from Boston, Roca’s big white building stood out as a beacon of hope in the otherwise economically and socially depressed community of Chelsea.
Roca has five sites in Massachusetts, one site in Connecticut, and one site in Baltimore.
