God's Bible School and College is a Bible college in Cincinnati, Ohio, founded in 1900. It is of the Wesleyan-Arminian (Methodist) tradition. History. Originally known as God's Bible School, the college was founded by Methodist minister Martin Wells Knapp in 1900.
Ohio Wesleyan has been acquiring traditions since 1844, when the College of Liberal Arts opened its doors with an enrollment of 29 male students taught by three professors. In 1853, the Ohio Wesleyan Female College, an independent institution, was established in Delaware and four years later moved into the new Monnett Hall.
The history of Ohio Wesleyan University began with discussions of a college in Ohio in 1821 when the Ohio Methodist Conference in connection with the Kentucky Conference had established Augusta, the first Methodist institution of higher learning in the United States.
Early growth (1855–1930) During the mid-19th century, Ohio Wesleyan focused on attracting students, adding fields of study, and fundraising, by which it significantly increased its endowment. [21] Sturges Hall was constructed as the university's first library in 1855. [22]
Southern Wesleyan University was established in 1906 under the name Wesleyan Methodist Bible Institute in Central, South Carolina. The southern conferences of the Wesleyan Methodist church had been planning to build a Christian school to serve their population for some time.
It was about this time an Ohio Wesleyan student, Daniel Awrey, moved into the area and Beniah eventually became his home base. He conducted meetings at Union Grove, Birchwood, and in other neighboring counties, and in 1895, accepted ordination as an elder in the Congregational Methodist Church.
