Early life and education. Margot Lee was born in 1969 in Hampton, Virginia. Her father named Robert Lee III worked as a research scientist at NASA's Langley Research Center, [2][3] and her mother named Margaret G. Lee was an English professor at the historically black Hampton University. [4] .
She lived for many years in New York and Mexico before moving to Charlottesville, Virginia, where she lives with her husband, writer Aran Shetterly. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia.
