Laurence Kerr Olivier, Baron Olivier, OM (22 May 1907 – 11 July 1989) was an English actor, director, and producer. He was one of the most famous and revered actors of the 20th century.
Olivier became the first Artistic Director of the National Theatre in when it was formed in 1963. It was based at the Old Vic Theatre in Waterloo until the new building on the South Bank was completed seven years later.
