Jan Alojzy Matejko (Polish pronunciation: [ˈjan aˈlɔjzɨ maˈtɛjkɔ] ⓘ; also known as Jan Mateyko; 24 June 1838 [nb 1] – 1 November 1893) was a Polish painter, a leading 19th-century exponent of history painting, known for depicting nodal events from Polish history.
Jan Matejko House (Polish: Dom Jana Matejki) is a museum dedicated to Polish painter Jan Matejko that was established in 1895 and has been a branch of the National Museum in Cracow since 1904. The building has been listed as a cultural property under the registration number A-58 in 12.05.1931.

The house where Matejko was born, lived, and passed away was transformed into the first Polish biographical museum that reflects his life and work.
The Jan Matejko House, which opened in 1904, preserves and displays over 6,000 objects relating to the artist in the old Kraków building where he lived, worked and, finally, died. The collection includes everyday objects and personal artefacts, archives, sketches and and oil paintings, as well as Matejko's own significant collection.
