The early church father Origen, for example, used it to refer to books that were to be kept out of public reading in church liturgies. But which books counted as “apocryphal” was something that changed over time and depended on who you asked.
These books were written by more than 40 people over approximately 1500 years, and each character and story helps point to one person: Christ Jesus and His act of redemption. Genesis - Discusses the creation of the world, sin and its consequences, and God's covenant with Abram.
