The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ / ɪ tʃ / ITCH, or ICZ), [1] known by sailors as the doldrums [2] or the calms because of its monotonous windless weather, is the area where the northeast and the southeast trade winds converge.
Doldrums, equatorial regions of light ocean currents and winds within the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), a belt of converging winds and rising air encircling Earth near the Equator. The northeast and southeast trade winds meet there; this meeting causes air uplift and often produces.

Feb 15, 2021 · The doldrums are: • Area of low atmospheric pressure with lots of rain. • Located on equator where there is least influence of the Coriolis effect. • Low wind area with calms, sudden storms, and light unpredictable winds
Dec 31, 2015 · Equatorial Low Pressure Belt or ‘Doldrums’ Lies between 10°N and 10°S latitudes. Width may vary between 5°N and 5°S and 20°N and 20°S. This belt happens to be the zone of convergence of trade winds from two hemispheres from sub-tropical high pressure belts. This belt is also called the Doldrums, because of the extremely calm air ...
doldrums dŏlˈdrəmz or equatorial belt of calms, area around the earth centered slightly north of the equator between the two belts of trade winds. The large amount of solar radiation that arrives at the earth in this area causes intense heating of the land and ocean.
