In 1712, the trade of enslaved people was outlawed in Pennsylvania. The colony was well-advertised, and by 1700 it was the third-biggest and the richest colony in the New World.
Whether this be true or not, the history of early Pennsylvania literature deserves some consideration, if only as the foreshadowing of greater things to come.
