The Cure are an English rock band formed in 1978 in Crawley, West Sussex. Throughout numerous lineup changes since the band's formation, guitarist, lead vocalist, and songwriter Robert Smith has remained the only constant member.
History. 1973–1979: Formation and early years. The founding members of the Cure were school friends at Notre Dame Middle School in Crawley, West Sussex. [8] . They first performed in public at an end-of-year show in April 1973 as members of a one-off school band, Obelisk. [9] .
