The Cure began in 1976 as 'Easy Cure'. It was formed by Robert Smith ( vocals , guitar ) together with schoolmates Michael Dempsey ( bass ), Lol Tolhurst ( drums ), and local guitarist Porl Thompson.
History. 1973–1979: Formation and early years. The founding members of the Cure were school friends at Notre Dame Middle School in Crawley, West Sussex. [8] . They first performed in public at an end-of-year show in April 1973 as members of a one-off school band, Obelisk. [9] .
He formed the band ‘Easy Cure’ in 1976 along with Laurence Tolhurst, Porl Thompson, and Michael Dempsey with Smith performing the role of one of the songwriters and singer. In 1978, the band was renamed as ‘The Cure’ with the dismissal of Porl Thompson from the group.
