Dec 27, 2023 · This magnificent building was built in 1917 after the Great Fire of 1901. It replaced an earlier structure on the same site (pictured on right). The school was named for Lincoln's Secretary of War, Edwin Stanton, who was instrumental in creation of the Freedmen's Bureau.

Feb 18, 2021 · In 1953, the modern Stanton building – New Stanton High School – was built along 13 th Street. Old Stanton, as it became known, was utilized as a vocational school for almost two decades before full decommissioning in 1971.
It was built in the 1860s before being destroyed and rebuilt several times. It has changed from comprehensive to vocational to college preparatory curricula. The school at one time taught all grade levels before permanently becoming a senior high school in a late 1930s.
