History. The main building has existed on the site since 1769. The original building was built for Peter Taylor MP by the Palladian architect Sir Robert Taylor, who was also the architect of the first Bank of England.
Our original school hall was built in 1928, and our first school gymnasium in 1935. Further building work took place in the 1950s and 1960s as the school continued to flourish and grow in popularity. In 1989, the main building was 150 years old, and further extensions and renovations took place.

Mar 14, 2021 · It was rebuilt in 1837. In the 1920s the house became a grammar school and later a primary school. In 1903 a tram called the Horndean Light Railway began running between Portsmouth and Horndean. The trams ran through Widley and Purbrook.
On the southern fringe of the forest was the little village of Purbrook. Its name is a corruption of Pucanbroc, which means the brook of the water-sprite. Early in the 19th century a windmill was built in Purbrook. Purbrook Church (St Johns) was built in 1858.
