When Things Were Rotten is an American sitcom television series created in 1975 by Mel Brooks and set in 1197 as a parody of the Robin Hood legend. [1] It aired for half a season on the ABC network. [2] The series starred Dick Gautier as the handsome and heroic Robin Hood.

A search of the wagon reveals plans for a device so destructive it defies belief: a giant gun that can rain destruction anywhere in the world from the comfort of one's own castle. Little John destroys the only blueprint, but Otto has the plans memorized.
Then Otto Bahn boasts about a wondrous invention he's created...the ultimate weapon. Little John angrily tells Bahn that men should fight eye-to-eye, and he asks Alan-A-Dale for a light, to burn Bahn's plans for this fearsome weapon.
