Just a quick aside here – The War of the Ancients trilogy takes place LONG before Rise of the Horde. That being said, to get a better handle on the story as a whole it’s wise to read them AFTER the preceding stories and start them immediately after reading Day of the Dragon.

I found my copies of the War of the Ancients trilogy that I never finished, and was thinking of starting to read it and hopefully finish this time. I looked up to see if these were the first books released, and if looks line the four that are included in the "Warcraft Archive" preceed these three.
I'm getting a little bit confused about the timelines as I read "Well of Eternity" (Book #1 of War of the Ancients). I've read: Rise of the Horde, The Last Guardian, Tides of Darkness, Beyond the Dark Portal, Day of the Dragon (& Lord of the Clans).
The War of the Ancients Trilogy is a trio of books written by author Richard A. Knaak. It details the events of the War of the Ancients (novel account). However, both accounts in the story are slightly different from the previous telling of the war, as is documented in War of the Ancients (WC3 account) and War of the Ancients (WoW account).
